EPHREM OLWENY is an Assistant Professor at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, he specializes in Urology.

Ephrem was born in Kampala, Uganda, and came to the US in 1994. He became a naturalized citizen on March 18, 2009.

Ephrem completed his undergraduate education at Macalester College, where he graduated magna cum laude in chemistry and biology. He received his MD from Washington University School of Medicine in 2004

While at medical school he found time to serve as coordinator of the Surgery Interest Group, provide tutoring in science to public high school students, and advise incoming minority students. On graduation, he was chief resident in urological surgery at the University of California at San Francisco.

Unable to begin medical school directly because of financial restrictions, he undertook scientific research in urological surgery, compiling thirteen publications, for three of which he is the lead author. An additional paper from his prior research 'Comprehensive evaluation of ureteral healing after electrosurgical endopyelotomy in a porcine model: original report and review of the literature' was published in Journal of Urology.
