Genevieve Sangudi is an immigrant from Kenya

GENEVIEVE SANGUDI is the Managing Director at the Carlyle Group in Lagos, Nigeria.

Genevieve was born in Mombassa, Kenya and immigrated to the United States when she was fifteen. Her family resides in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Genevieve attended Macalester College and received a joint MIA/MBA from the School of International and Public Affairs and the Business School at Columbia University.

While at Columbia, Genevieve interned at J.P. Morgan Chase in New York and at the United Nations Development Program in Rwanda. She also served as the President of the Association of Students of African Decent and was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Affairs. Upon graduation in 2004, Genevieve joined Emerging Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on Africa and subsequently became a Partner and Managing Director of the firm and established their Nigeria operation. Genevieve is currently a Managing Director of the Carlyle Group, one of the largest alternative asset management firms in the world. She focuses on buyout and growth capital investments in sub-Saharan Africa and is responsible for originating, executing and managing investments across the continent.

Genevieve started her career at Procter & Gamble where she worked on market strategies for a number of global brands.

Genevieve was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2015.
